Introduction to Media Studies.

 Hello, my name is Danielle Sigrist, I attend Fort Lauderdale High School, and I am in the tenth grade. I am going for my Cambridge diploma and may get to complete it by the end of this year if I do well on all of my AICE exams. I chose to take this class because I was looking for something that seemed fun and interesting to learn about, and since I love watching movies I thought it would be interesting to learn about them. I am very excited to learn about what goes into making and publishing movies because the average person really only watches the final product of a movie. I believe film and television has a large impact on a lot of peoples lives, especially now since streaming platforms like Netflix and Hulu make film and television right at our finger tips and so easy to watch. Outside of school I enjoy going out with my friends, playing sports, and of course watching movies and television shows. My favorite sport to play is lacrosse, however I also enjoy playing tennis with my father in my free time. My favorite movie is Lady Bird since it's a coming-of-age story about a girl and her experience in high school and later college. My favorite show is Black Mirror because of how each episode is different and adds a different story to one big picture. I have a dog named Sam that I am always petting and playing with, and a cat named Minou that my parents and I recently adopted. I also love to listen to music, I believe it helps me focus when doing school work. I specifically like classical music when working, it helps me to keep focused, while not having any words to distract me. In this class I have already learned about different camera angles, lighting, and sound, which as changed the way I watch movies. Whenever I watch a movie or television show I now look to see the different camera angles, lighting, and sound, which is so neat since I would have never thought about that initially. Also now whenever I watch a television show or movie a no longer watch it just for the content, however I now watch it to see the different camera angles, lighting, and sounds they use. Movies play a big role in media in todays world, they can influence a majority of people to buy a product, or do something, and I have always wondered to myself what is going behind the scenes of these movies. I love to learn about new things, especially in everyday life, just like how I consume different forms of media everyday including movies, television shows, and commercials, which will be very interesting to learn about. My favorite types of movies to watch are coming-of-age and action, so to take a look on how these types of movies are made will be an enlightening experience for me. I would consider myself a big consumer of media since I am fifteen years old currently, and the world is constantly changing, I am always looking at media online. Overall I am very excited to be participating in this class, and to learn more about media and how its produced.
