Genre Research: Action

 I conducted research this year on the action genre of movies where I discussed the different aspects of the genre of action movies. I made sure in the powerpoint to add different pictures and examples of each term I researched. I specifically used pictures from action movies to show how each term was used and to show action examples. I discussed the lighting in action movies, which typically tends to be low-key lighting, high-key lighting, and Rembrandt lighting. I used pictures from movies like "Fight Club" to show the use of this lighting in these movies. I discussed the camera angles in action movies, which tend to be establishing shots, ariel shots, close up shots, mid shots, and high angle shots. I used the establishing shot from the Harry Potter series to use has an example to show an example of an establishing shot. I discussed the movement that is used in action movies which are pans, zooms, reverse zooms, tilt, and crane shots. I discussed the mise-en-scene in action movies; mise-en-scene is costumes, makeup, props, and the acting within a movie. Common mise-en-scene in action movies include heroic costumes for superheroes, like The Avengers. Some common mise-en-scene in action movies is makeup that includes dirt, blood, bruises and even some special effects makeup. Also certain props are common mise-en-scene in action movies, like fighting gear, fighting weapons, and different forms of transportation. Action is also mise-en-scene, in action movies, the typical action includes fighting, running, being angry, or serious. There are specific elements in action movies which tend to be a lot of high energy, physical stunts, chase scenes, and destructive disasters. I also discussed some specific movies in the action genre like "Tomb Raider", "Kingsman: Golden Circle", "Suicide Squad", "Avengers: Endgame", and "Men In Black: International". Also I discussed some of the different types of sound in action movies which include asynchronous sound, synchronous sound, dialogue between characters, and ambient sound. In my powerpoint I also discussed my personal opinions about the action genre of movies. In the action genre of movies, I personally really enjoy them because of how flashy it is and how high energy those movies are overall. However, I also discussed what I didn't like about those movies, which was that sometimes the movie feels as if it is moving too fast and there is no plot. Overall, I thoroughly enjoy action movies, and I found that researching them was very interesting.
