I researched the horror genre of movies where I saw the different aspects of thriller movies. In the thriller powerpoint there were pictures to be used as an example for each term used within it. The common camera angles typically used in horror movies are high angles, low angles, close-up, point of view shot, and over the shoulder shot. The common movement typically used in horror movies are hand-held, track, pan, tilt, and steadicam. Common mise-en-scene costumes in horror movies are clown costumes, worn down clothes, tears in the clothes, dirty clothes, and masks. Common mise-en-scene acting is screaming, being scared, and lots of emotion, and this typically takes place in the woods, abandoned houses, swamps, run-down churches, and graveyards. Common makeup used is blood, ghostly and washed out makeup, special effects like cuts, wounds, and scars, and clown makeup. Horror movies also typically use weapons like knives, guns, chainsaws, and rope as props for the movie. Some elements of the horror genre is that its typically in third person, violent, dark, eerie, and graphic. Horror movies sometimes involves supernatural elements and are made to create fear within the audience by being suspenseful and mysterious. Some common sound that could be heard in horror movies are diegetic sound, non-diegetic sound, soundtracks, ambient sound, and asynchronous sound. Some personal aspects I enjoy about horror movies are the score within the movie since it sets the mood for the film, the acting creates a feeling that you are in the movie, and scares keep the audience engaged with the movie. I also researched the genre of thriller and saw the common things in these movies. The typical lighting used in thrillers is low-key lighting, this causes the frame to be casted with large shadows. Common camera angles used in thrillers are high-angle, close up, hand-held shots, tracking shots, and tilted shots. Some movement that is used in thrillers are tracking, panning, and zooming, which add to the theme of thrillers. Costumes in thrillers can be seen as normal clothing or scary, which is dependent on the scene. Typical settings for thrillers usually are cities or suburbs with normal people, doing normal things. The acting in thrillers usually include a lot of emotion to create a sense of uneasiness with the audience. Makeup that is typically used in thrillers is special effects makeup, which allows for the actor to have unhuman like features. Props like knives, guns, and masks are typically used in thrillers. Typical elements used for thrillers are emotion, suspense, tension, terror, anxiety, and surprises. Common sound used for thrillers include ambient sound, and asynchronous sound which allows for tension to build up.
